With joy I heartily welcome you to the East African Province, one of the biggest Provinces in our Congregation. The Province is grateful to God for the gift of vocations and continues to pray that many women continue to respond to God’s call to keep alive the great legacy of our Father Founder. May God continue to keep us united in the Spirit of Father Founder and Mother Paula as we together embrace the call to be
“New wine in Fresh wine skins”.
Tanzania is one of the three countries belonging to the East African Province. It comprises the mainland of the former Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The first four CPS Sisters arrived in 1898 at Gare in Tanzania which was under the Apostolic Vicariate of Kilimanjaro. They were sent from Durban, South Africa to assist the Trappists in the difficult tasks of cultivating the land, attending to the domestic duties, training the women and children and helping the sick and poor in the area.
At the present time, there are 11 CPS communities serving in Tanzania.
